The MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh CD allows you to boot from the CD, run MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh from the CD, build custom configurations of the MacTest Pro disks, or copy disk images of standard configurations.
Booting from the MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh CD
You can boot a Power Macintosh computer from the MacTest Pro CD and run either MTP Emergency or MacTest Pro. The CD contains Mac OS 8.1 which is active when the machine under test is booted from the CD.
To boot from the CD, switch on the CD-ROM drive (if it's external), insert the CD, and then start up the Power Macintosh computer. Press and hold down the "c" key while starting up the system. Continue holding down the key until the "Happy Mac" icon appears on your screen.
If more than one SCSI hard drive is connected to the computer and is set up as a bootable hard disk, disconnect those drives before starting up the computer. If you do not disconnect the drives, the computer may not be able to boot from the CD.
What's New
The What's New folder gives a concise picture of what elements of the CD have changed since the last release. It also contains aliases to these new pieces. The folder called Updated Test Modules contains a copy of each of the updated test modules.
Printing
To print test reports and documentation, boot the computer from the internal hard drive and then open the CD. Printing is not available when you are booted from the CD.

Double-click the MTP Emergency (PPC) application icon.
Launching MacTest Pro from the CD
There is a folder at the root level of the CD called Run MacTest Pro, which contains three custom configurations based on product families. These configurations are designed to contain the most frequently used test modules for each type of machine. The following is a list of the product families:
PowerBooks
Power Macintosh
WorkGroup Servers
Each configuration also provides the option to manually load less frequently used test modules. In order to load one of more of these test modules use the Load Test Modules... option in the File menu of the MacTest Pro application.
The MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh CD also includes two specialized configurations that can be used when a particular aspect of a Power Macintosh needs to be tested:
RAM Tests
Drives
The RAM Tests configuration tests both RAM and VRAM. The Drives configuration tests mass storage devices such as hard drives, ZIP drives, CD-ROM drives, DVD drives, DAT drives, and floppy drives.
To Run MacTest Pro: Open the Run MacTest Pro folder. Locate the appropriate icon for the machine you wish to test and double-click on the icon. MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh will launch and load the appropriate test modules.

The Documentation folder contains several documents that can help you use MacTest Pro more effectively.

The MacTest Pro Training Guide is available to help you learn how to use MacTest Pro as an effective diagnostic tool. This training guide is an excerpt from the Macintosh Service and Tools Course (MS&TC), one of the self-study courses available on the Service Price Pages.
The MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh User's Guide is available to provide reference information, what tests are available and detailed information about each test.
Both of these guides have been formatted as a viewer document which allows you to search on key words, go to a specific page, and print all or part of a guide. A particular portion of a guide can be located by referring to the table of contents or using the search function of the viewer. Use the help option of the viewer to learn how all of its features work.
NOTE: When printing pages from a guide, you may have to enter a different number than the page numbers on the bottom of each page. This is because the cover and table of contents count as pages to the viewer. To determine the correct page number (s) to print, use the page numbers on the bottom of the viewer window instead.
Creating MacTest Pro Floppy Disks
You also have the option of creating floppy disks with the standard configuration of tests, or building a custom configuration. The Build Disks folder contains several options you can use to build floppy disks such as using Disk Copy to download disk images, or by dragging the files directly onto the floppy disks.

Utilities
The Utilities folder located at the root level of the CD contains tools that may be useful.
System Requirements
To use the MacTest Pro CD, you'll need:
• Power Macintosh computer with keyboard, mouse, CD-ROM drive, and depending on the system, display and video card.
• If you boot from the internal hard drive rather than from the CD, the CD must be in the CD-ROM drive.
• Minimum of 8 MB of RAM.
• Mac OS 7.1.2 or later.
• Additional hardware may be required to run some tests. See the MacTest Pro User's Guide (PPC) for individual test requirments.
Startup Problems/Solutions
If the CD-ROM icon does not appear on your screen after you insert the CD and boot the computer, proceed as follows:
• Check that the CD-ROM driver is in the System Folder. If the driver is not in the System Folder, install the driver from the original disk that came with your Power Macintosh, then restart your Power Macintosh.
• Switch on the CD-ROM before restarting or powering on the Power Macintosh.
• Verify that your SCSI cables are correctly configured, terminated, and securely connected. Also, verify that there are no SCSI ID conflicts.
• Use a known-good CD-ROM drive, and verify that the drive has power.
